Containment Breach?

Has Asbestos & Lead Removal Corp already breached containment at Bulova?
On the afternoon of Friday, May 11, bricks fell from the area where ALR was working, creating a gap about 2 feet high by 10 inches wide. If in fact ALR was removing asbestos in this area, this would most likely have been a breach of containment. Remember, one of the principals of proper asbestos removal is to keep the contaminated area contained at all times. We encourage to inquire about this occurance, as we do not have access to information beyond what we see. To find out more, call Mayor Ferraris at (631) 725-0222.

Lung afflicted with mesothelioma

Asbestos is a microscopic fiber that, when inhaled or ingested, causes diseases such as lung cancer, asbestosis, and mesothelioma. These diseases are ultimately fatal.

Elizabeth Clancy's life was cut short at the age of 23 by mesothelioma.

CLICK HERE for more information on Elizabeth and other victims of asbestos.

You do not have to be an asbestos worker to get mesothelioma. Up to one quarter of all mesothelioma victims contract the disease "passively," by inhaling ambient asbestos fibers or fibers brought home on the clothes of family members working with asbestos. CLICK HERE for more info.

Asbesos & Lead Removal Corp.

A danger to workers and the general public

Asbestos & Lead Removal Corp. has been assessed tens of thousands of dollars in fines for dozens of serious safety violations. George Kourkounakis, President of ALR, previously owned AAA Asbestos Abatement. AAA’s asbestos license was revoked by the NYS Dept. of Labor.

On at least five separate occasions, ALR has been found performing dry removal of asbestos. According to the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, dry removal is “considered to be the most serious infraction under the Asbestos Rules.”

Dry removal of asbestos creates a much greater chance that the asbestos will break and the fibers will become airborne. This greatly increases the chance that a worker or a member of the general public will breathe in this carcinogen.

As this graph shows, the airborne asbestos level spikes tremendously when illegal dry removal ("ripping & skipping") is performed. Click here for more information.
